Second Highest in Tanzania: Mount Meru is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania, with its summit, Socialist Peak, standing at an elevation of 4,562 meters (14,968 feet) above sea level.
Climbing Routes: The most common route is the Momella Route, which approaches the summit from the northeastern side. The climb typically takes around 4-5 days.
Arusha National Park: Mount Meru is within the bounds of Arusha National Park, providing additional opportunities for wildlife viewing before or after your trek.
Best Time to Visit:
The best time to trek Mount Meru is during the dry season, which generally runs from June to October. The skies are clearer, and the weather is more predictable, providing optimal conditions for trekking and enjoying the stunning views from the summit. The dry season is also the coolest time of the year, making the climb more comfortable.
It’s advisable to avoid the long rainy season from March to May when the trails can be muddy and slippery. However, the mountain can be trekked year-round, and some climbers prefer the quieter months outside of the peak tourist season. The choice of when to visit depends on your preferences and tolerance for different weather conditions.
